Chardham Yatra Guidelines
  1. Best Time to Visit:
  • April to June (Summer): The weather is relatively pleasant with clear skies, making it the most popular time for the Yatra.
  • September to November (Post-monsoon): This period also provides good weather and less crowd.
  • Avoid monsoon months (July-August): due to the risk of landslides and heavy rainfall.
Entry and Travel Routes:
  • The Yatra circuit generally starts from Yamunotri, then to Gangotri, Kedarnath, and ends at Badrinath. The order can sometimes vary depending on the travel routes and local conditions.
  • The journey requires careful planning as it involves travelling through rugged terrain and steep mountainous roads. Ensure you use reliable travel agencies and local transport services.
Accommodation:
  • There are numerous Dharmshalas, hotels, and guesthouses at each of the Dham destinations. It’s advisable to book in advance, especially during peak seasons.
  • Campstays and trekking routes are available near some sites like Kedarnath (trek) and Yamunotri.
Health and Fitness:
  • Since you will be travelling at high altitudes, it is essential to be in good health. It is recommended to undergo a health check-up before embarking on the Yatra.
  • Altitude sickness can be a concern, so acclimatization is important.
  • Keep important medications (for altitude sickness, cold, headache, and basic first aid) with you.
Safety:
  • Always travel in groups or with a guide, especially during treks to Kedarnath or Yamunotri.
